It's Alive! The Birth of the Universal Monsters at TP Performing Arts Center

Universal Pictures released a series of horror films between 1913–1956. Founded by Carl Laemmle, Universal was not a big player during Hollywood’s early years. But when Universal discovered audiences wanted thrills, the studio turned its energies into the horror genre. What connected most of Universal’s classic monsters was their roles as outsiders, earning sympathy and terrors.

Universal’s first step in defining horror was collaborating with Lon Chaney, “The Man of a Thousand Faces.” Anchored by some of the most iconic movie monsters, the classic Universal Monster films have continued to resonate with horror fans for nearly a hundred years. This is the story of their creation and legacy. Signup required.

Speaker Bio: William Pack brings interesting and educational programs to adult and teen audiences.

"My performing and communication skills have elevated programs from lecture to an event experience.

As a child, I spent much of my summer hanging around the local library. With free access to the book collection, I discovered a voracious desire to read everything. I've used this passionate curiosity to create a  diverse collection of programs, covering biography, history, and science.  As a professional performer, I transferred my skills to create incredible visuals, interactive elements, and humor to my programs.

Born and raised in Chicago, I am a magician, storyteller, and author. At 11 years old, I got my first job in a magic shop and have been performing ever since. I've won numerous awards for my magic and comedy performances.

In 2001, I taught actor Will Smith sleight of hand for his portrayal of Muhammad Ali in the film, Ali."
